GIMP Tutorial – How To Make Glitter Effect

I’m back with a brand new tutorial on how to make glitter effects in GIMP. So, let’s get started.

1.) Open up the image you’d like to animate with glitter. In my example, it looks like I’ll be using camera lens.

2.) Duplicate your image twice.
3.) Select the area you’d like to glitter with the Path, Ellipse, Rectangle, or Lasso tool.
4.) Go to the menu and select Filters –> Noise –> RGB Noise.

5.) Make sure that Correlated Noise is checked not Independent Noise. From there, use the slide bar to select the amount of noise you’d like to use. Press Ok.

5.) Now, repeat this same process for each layer. Or just press CTRL + F on your keyboard.

6.) To view your animation, go to Filters –> Animation –> Playback. Press Play.
7.) You may think you’re finished, well you’re wrong. You must save this file as the appropriate file extension first. So, go to File –> Save As… Look for the location you’d like to save your animation in and make sure you make the extension as a .gif file.
8.) A window should pop up now. Make sure you select Save as Animation. Then, just keep continuing on.
Now, you’re officially finished. Enjoy!
